Cohoes officials consider developing an urban park as part of city
revitalization project
By Danielle Sanzone Troy Record (NY) August 21, 2013COHOES - There are a few ideas being discussed for the revitalization of the Spindle City through the stateâs Brownfield Opportunity Area Program. One of the suggestions would include decreasing the density of housing on a block of Congress, Main, and Hart streets to create an urban park that would connect that up-and-coming area of the city with downtown. While the plan would include demolishing possibly more than 20 houses, city officials said they would only proceed with such a plan if it had the support of the affected homeowners and residents. A meeting was held Wednesday night at The Venue at St. Josephâs which is located adjacent to the proposed park. The gathering was the last public hearing in a series that has been ongoing since 2011, when the city first started plans for the brownfield program, said Ed Tremblay, the cityâs head of community development. Other ideas include development along the cityâs waterfront, a blue line trail, and development at the Department of Public Works site, he added. ...
