EPA updates community on DuPont cleanup in Pompton Lakes

The federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released its  
digital quarterly newsletter last month with information geared at  
residents living in the contaminated Plume area of the borough. The  
August 2013 newsletter provides updates on aspects of the DuPont  
cleanup including the permit modification appeal process and the  
bioremediation pilot study.

It also announced that the next public information sessions have been  
scheduled for 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Oct. 3 at the Carnevale  
Center. And to further expand communications with residents, the EPA  
will begin holding an open-hours service where members of the public  
can stop by and get their questions answered. More information on the  
open-hours service is expected to be announced in the near future.

As for the permit modification appeal process, the EPA and DuPont are  
in continued negotiations to finalize the project parameters.
