deeper at Hopewell site

HOPEWELL JUNCTION - New test results taken from deep private wells in  
the Hopewell Precision Superfund site may point the way to an  
unexpected solution for dozens of homes with contaminated well water.

The Environmental Protection Agency has found that well water drawn  
from 19 deep wells in or near the contamination area was clean and  
free of unhealthy chemical contaminants.

The findings further open the possibility of an alternative solution  
for residents who live with well water that was contaminated with  
trichloroethylene (TCE) and trichloroethane (TCA) as a result of  
sheet-metal manufacturing operations at Hopewell Precision Inc. on  
Ryan Drive. The EPA has paid for filters and regular water tests in  
41 homes with contamination above a certain level.
