School board addresses Malibu High contamination Vocal opponents claim lack of transparency, info from SMMUSD by Katherine Peach Mailbu Surfside News (CA) December 02, 2013Following the much anticipated arrival of preliminary testing results for contaminants at Malibu High School, Middle School and Juan Cabrillo Elementary School, the Santa Monica-Malibu Board of Education faced a bevy of irate parents, faculty and community members who demanded answers. Instead, an outspoken crowd faced a tight-lipped Board where general announcements replaced specific findings. Superintendent Sandra Lyon assured the crowd, "We have good news and work to do." The "good news," is that air samples for PCBs that are "well below the health-based threshold" established by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for children and adults, said Lyon. Air assessments indicate the buildings in question are "healthy rooms." ...
