U.S. Supreme Court to hear CTS case U.S. Supreme Court to hear pollution arguments by Clarke Morrison Asheville Citizen-Times (NC) January 18, 2014ASHEVILLE - The U.S. Supreme Court will hear arguments in a lawsuit brought by Buncombe County property owners over extensive soil and groundwater contamination at the former CTS plant.
Without comment, the court agreed to consider an appeal by CTS Corp. asking that the suit be dismissed. Had the justices rejected the writ of certiorari, the lawsuit would have gone to trial in U.S. District Court in Asheville.
The U.S. Supreme Court grants and hears oral arguments in about 75-80 cases a year. That's out of about 10,000 petitions received annually to review the decision of a lower court.
