Madison Kipp to remove millions of gallons of contaminated groundwater by PAT SCHNEIDER Capital Times (WI) March 22, 2014Madison Kipp Corporation is preparing to pump millions of gallons of contaminated water from underneath its east side plant to pull an underground plume of pollutants away from an aquifer tapped for the city’s drinking water supply.
The new groundwater extraction system should be running this summer, pending final design approval from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Kipp CEO Tony Koblinski told a dozen neighbors of the plant at a community meeting Wednesday.
The system will pump 40 to 50 gallons a minute, from 60 to 175 feet deep in areas under and adjacent to the plant where the highest concentrations of Perchloroethylene, or PCE, are located, Koblinski said. The water will then be filtered to remove PCE, he said.
