Work to begin on Brownfield project in Curwensville

CURWENSVILLE - At yesterday's meeting, members of Curwensville Development Corp. heard updates on a local Brownfield rehabilitation, training for the Blueprint Communities program and its revolving loan program.

Equipment set up will begin next week as the start of a project to recover 26.5 acres along Cooper Road that was the former home of Howe's Leather tannery that operated from 1903 to 2003. The Clearfield County Economic Development Corporation was the recipient of a $1 million grant that will be used to defray expenses to develop the site for industrial use by demolishing existing structures and removing foundations and eliminating sludge from lagoons on the property.

According to published reports, three different sites of environmental and safety concerns will be cleaned up. Upon the project's completion, six to eight parcels of property will be subdivided and marketed for new business facilities.
