Brownfield Cleanup Program extended to March 2017

Legislation to extend the state’s Brownfield Cleanup Program was passed Friday by the Senate, following passage by the Assembly, and will be sent to Gov. Andrew Cuomo to be signed into law, officials announced Friday.



The bill would continue the brownfield program through March 31, 2017, and increases bonding by $300 million for the state Department of Environmental Conservation’s Superfund program, Senate representatives said in a statement.



"The Brownfield Cleanup Program is a critical tool that encourages private investment in communities to get vacant and abandoned properties cleaned up and back on the tax rolls," said Sen. Mark Grisanti, R-Buffalo, who sponsored the bill.
