WARWICK - Demolition and site restoration work has begun at Rocky Point, according to the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM). This work will be the first step in the creation of a new coastal state park.

Gov. Lincoln Chafee has been a supporter of the preservation of Rocky Point since the days when he was the city’s mayor. “I am pleased that clean-up work is underway at Rocky Point so that the public will be able to enjoy this special place on the Rhode Island landscape,” he said. “This iconic property is one of Rhode Island’s most beloved natural assets and holds many special memories.”

The contractor for the project is HK&S Construction of North Kingstown. DEM will use a combination of state and federal money to clean up the site. The total project cost is $3.1 million.
