Tim Hortons to be built in Independence Township

Plans for a new Tim Hortons in Independence Township will move forward, while Orion Township recently rejected a Tim Hortons that would have included a Cold Stone Creamery.

The Oakland County Brownfield Development Authority will help the Independence Township redevelop an old gas station at M-15 and Dixie Highway where a vacant gas station has been closed for years. The ground is contaminated, so it has been hard to attract a developer to the site, said Patrick Kittle, township supervisor.

Now, working with the county and the township, a developer plans to tear down the old structure, reconfigure the site and build a Tim Hortons along with a T-Mobile store.

The township approved making the property a brownfield area, so, as a result, the county will pay for remediation and then receive reimbursement from tax increment financing. The township will continue to collect taxes on the property as well.
