State awards Washington Village redeveloper $1.3M for brownfield cleanup

NORWALK -- The Washington Village transformation project has landed a $1.3 million state loan to pay for related environmental cleanup work.

On Wednesday, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy announced that Trinity Financial, LLC, the Boston-based developer that is spearheading the Washington Village Transformation Plan, will receive a $1,338,555 loan to remediate and facilitate the redevelopment of a 0.8-acre parcel to include 80 mixed-income rental units including community space.

The $110 million Washington Village Transformation project, undertaken by Trinity Financial in concert with the Norwalk Housing Authority and Norwalk Redevelopment Agency, calls for razing Washington Village and its 136 apartments along Water Street and building in their place 136 public-housing units, 67 workforce housing units and 70 market-rate units in two, three and four-story buildings.
