Small Olean brownfield sees cleanup By Christopher Michel Olean Times Herald (NY) October 7, 2014OLEAN - Efforts to clean a small property on the edge of Olean's brownfields are underway.
Crews from D&H Excavating began environmental remediation work last week at 251 Homer St., a 16.68-acre lot abutting Interstate 86 where contamination from its days as an industrial site decades ago is still present. The property is part of 500-acre brownfield area of the city where industrial contamination has impeded redevelopment.
Work at the site - primarily excavating and removing around 33,000 cubic yards of contaminated soil, removing underground petroleum pipes, and installing groundwater monitoring systems - should continue through the end of the year with no major delays.
