State to stop cancer research at Motorola Superfund Site By Gabriel Sandler Arizona Republic November 10, 2014 State officials will stop studying instances of cancer and birth defects related to the Motorola Superfund site because of limitations on the data they are able to collect. The decision was supported by community members involved in the cleanup of the site, a large area of contaminated groundwater that stretches from 52nd Street to Seventh Avenue and Palm Lane to Buckeye Road. The contaminants at the site, leaked originally by a Motorola Inc. factory and other sources, are known to cause cancer. Most prominent among them was trichloroethylene, or TCE, an industrial solvent.
