Walton Way between canal and 8th Street contaminated by Uyen Le Turn to 10 TV News (Augusta, GA) January 8, 2015 AUGUSTA, Ga. - By this spring a portion of Walton Way will be closed. The area between the Augusta Canal bridge and 8th street has been deemed contaminated. That part of Walton Way is set to be shut down to clean up polluted land caused by old factory byproduct. But, unlike the Hyde Park contamination, the city is not responsible and won't have to foot the bill this time. The contamination of this land along Walton Way and 8th street goes back nearly a hundred years. An old factory on the site apparently produced manufactured tar that then seeped into the ground. To clean it up, the street will have to be shut down so that way crews can dig as deep as 30 feet in order to remove the contaminated soil. … For the entire story, see http://www.turnto10.com/story/27796718/walton-way-between-canal-and-8th-street-contaminated -- Lenny Siegel Executive Director, Center for Public Environmental Oversight a project of the Pacific Studies Center 278-A Hope Street Mountain View, CA 94041 Voice: 650-961-8918 or 650-969-1545 Fax: 650-961-8918 LSiegel@cpeo.org http://www.cpeo.org _______________________________________________ Brownfields mailing list Brownfields@lists.cpeo.org http://lists.cpeo.org/listinfo.cgi/brownfields-cpeo.org | |
