Soil Contamination Delays Renovation at Los Angeles State Historic Park By Eddie Kim LA Downtown News (CA) January 14, 2015 9:20 am Soil Contamination Delays Renovation at Los Angeles State Historic Park The 34-acre Los Angeles State Historic Park closed in April 2014 for a $20 million renovation. The extensive renovation of Los Angeles State Historic Park, the 34-acre facility on the edge of Chinatown, has hit delays, and its spring opening has been pushed back. State Department of Parks and Recreation Superintendent Sean Woods said the project, which began in April 2014 and was scheduled to last a year, is now expected to finish in November. Workers were putting in utility lines when they ran into a section of a brick building they had not seen on historical maps, Woods said, and it had to be excavated.
