Hernando Charrette yields future

The future is so bright, one has to wear shades, to parody a popular 80s Top 40 musical hit.

For the past several days, Hernando city officials and a group of out-of-town planners have donned their sunglasses for a walk around Hernando and glimpse its future possibilities.

During a three-day charrette, a fancy French word for a formal study and public planning session, a team of South Carolina-based researchers have found that the DeSoto County seat can support more than a quarter-million more feet of additional commercial space.

That's just one of the findings that Aaron Arnett, a partner with Arnett Muldrow & Associates in Greenville, S.C. shared with a panel of business and city officials on Tuesday, the second day of a three-day visit to Hernando.
