Council to consider ERO soon By Leeann Doerflein Montgomery County Paper (IN) July 9, 2015 The Crawfordsville City Council will consider an ordinance that would restrict the use of groundwater at or in the neighborhood nearby the 905 Louise Ave. location. This is in response to lingering water contamination from the former IMPEX industrial site. The Environmental Restrictive Ordinance has been rolled out in a multi-step process beginning on April 15 of this year when IMPEX held a public information hearing. The meeting attendees numbered two. The ERO was then sent on to the Ordinance and Petitions Committee who voted to send it to city council for a vote. The first reading of the ordinance will take place at the next council meeting on July 13 at 7 p.m. The ordinance will be read three times before a vote is taken, per council rules. The groundwater contamination area is confined at an area north of the IMPEX site in groundwater 70 to 80 feet below the ground. The area is a polygon-shaped zone with borders at the site, Position Ave., Wabash Ave. and the area near Wilson St. Per the ERO, the groundwater from the area is okay to use for gardening, washing a car or industrial purposes, but the water should not be used for drinking, cooking or bathing. … For the entire article, seer http://www.thepaper24-7.com/Content/News/Local-News/Article/Council-to-consider-ERO-soon/23/22/52514 -- Lenny Siegel Executive Director, Center for Public Environmental Oversight a project of the Pacific Studies Center 278-A Hope Street Mountain View, CA 94041 Voice: 650-961-8918 or 650-969-1545 Fax: 650-961-8918 LSiegel@cpeo.org http://www.cpeo.org _______________________________________________ Brownfields mailing list Brownfields@lists.cpeo.org http://lists.cpeo.org/listinfo.cgi/brownfields-cpeo.org | |
