Site preparation continues for brownfield redevelopment

OLEAN - Work continues to revive a long-dormant property in Olean.

For the last several weeks, 1404-1406 Buffalo St. has bustled with activity, as excavators, backhoes and other heavy equipment have cleared the 60-acre property to make way for two multimillion-dollar projects — Olean Gateway and Solean.

Both projects represent one of the largest commercial investments in Olean. Combined, they total $32 million.

Olean Gateway, a $17 million commercial development, is being overseen by Krog Corp., an Orchard Park-based developer, while BQ Energy of Poughkeepsie is building Solean, a $15 million solar power plant.

Plans for the Olean Gateway project include constructing six buildings, which will feature a hotel, a free-standing restaurant and commercial retail space.
