Quackenbush fire site, a brownfield, is proposed for huge development Soil contaminated where apartment, hotel complex plan projected By Lauren Stanforth Albany Times-Union (NY) September 13, 2015 Albany - The site of a three-alarm fire over the weekend next to historic Quackenbush Square is a contaminated brownfield that has been proposed for a massive apartment and hotel complex. The long-vacant brick warehouse at 32 Spencer St. at which the fire started early Saturday morning was demolished Sunday. Two other buildings next to the warehouse, at 42 and 46 Spencer, were also taken down for fear that they would collapse while demolition was occurring, Albany Fire Chief Warren Abriel said.
