Officials: Chemical contamination found in Little Sugar Creek WSOC TV-9 New (Charlotte, NC) September 21, 2015 CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Mecklenburg County health officials are advising against drinking, fishing and bathing in a portion of Little Sugar Creek due to elevated levels of chemical contaminants. According to the county health department, the section of the creek affected is between East 36th and North Brevard streets in Charlotte. Results from testing performed by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services earlier this month revealed elevated levels of trichloroethylene (TCE) and perchloroethylene (PCE) in the water. TCE and PCE are colorless, nonflammable liquids that are used in a variety of commercial and industrial processes. The source of the contamination in Little Sugar Creek is currently under investigation, but is thought to be associated with industrial activities in the area. … For the entire article, see http://www.wsoctv.com/news/news/local/health-officials-chemical-contamination-found-litt/nnj4L/ -- Lenny Siegel Executive Director, Center for Public Environmental Oversight a project of the Pacific Studies Center 278-A Hope Street Mountain View, CA 94041 Voice: 650-961-8918 or 650-969-1545 Fax: 650-961-8918 LSiegel@cpeo.org http://www.cpeo.org _______________________________________________ Brownfields mailing list Brownfields@lists.cpeo.org http://lists.cpeo.org/listinfo.cgi/brownfields-cpeo.org | |
