First phase of Chrysler cleanup work progressing BY BILL GUIDA Kenosha News (WI) October 8, 2015 Work to remediate the 109-acre, former Chrysler Engine Plant site is proceeding on schedule, a city official said Thursday. “Right now, I’m focusing on the 8-acre parcel at 60th Street and 30th Avenue, and we’re working with the DNR and EPA on the next steps for the whole Chrysler site,” said Shelly Billingsley, acting public works director. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and the federal Environmental Protection Agency typically provide regulatory oversight for remediation of such former industrial properties to ensure contaminated soil is properly removed, disposed and replaced.
