Kingston seeks public input about brownfield plan

KINGSTON - The public is being asked to weigh in on a draft generic environmental impact statement that was completed for the “Kingston Waterfront Brownfield Opportunity Area Implementation Plan.”

The plan was created to guide redevelopment of an approximately 192-acre “Brownfield Opportunity Area,” also known as the Hudson Riverport Project for Kingston’s Waterfront. The area to be redeveloped includes the waterfront area between Abeel Street, Dock Street, and East Strand from the confluence of the Rondout Creek and the Hudson River at Kingston Point to Island Dock. Redevelopment could include the “possible remediation of several strategic brownfield sites adjacent to parkland, commercial and residential areas, and the Hudson River and Rondout Creeks,” according to a press release from the city.
