You can add the direction of the cleanup of the CTS site to the list. As with other issues, such as Duke Energy’s plans for a 45-mile transmission line from Lake Julian into South Carolina, public input could have a large impact on the final decision. The Environmental Protection Agency is receiving public comment through Nov. 29 on how to best proceed with cleanup of trichloroethylene, better known as TCE, in the groundwater table of a South Asheville neighborhood. TCE, a metal degreasing chemical, is a carcinogen associated with cancer of the kidneys and other organs. It has bubbled to the surface through springs and spread in an underground plume estimated by the EPA to be the size of 90 football fields. … For the entire article, see http://www.citizen-times.com/story/opinion/editorials/2015/11/20/view-cts-saga-significant-turning-point/76101192/ -- Lenny Siegel Executive Director, Center for Public Environmental Oversight a project of the Pacific Studies Center 278-A Hope Street Mountain View, CA 94041 Voice: 650-961-8918 or 650-969-1545 Fax: 650-961-8918 LSiegel@cpeo.org http://www.cpeo.org _______________________________________________ Brownfields mailing list Brownfields@lists.cpeo.org http://lists.cpeo.org/listinfo.cgi/brownfields-cpeo.org | |
