Committee clears way for brownfields grant for new Missoula Food Bank

Preparations for a new Missoula Food Bank took a big leap Wednesday when Missoula City Council members cleared the way for a $100,000 federal brownfields grant.

The money will pay for removal of asbestos and contaminated soil, demolition and other cleanup work at a former auto repair shop on the corner of Catlin and Wyoming streets.

“We expect the cost may come in less than the full amount of the grant,” said Nancy Harte, senior grants administrator and brownfields coordinator for the city. “The money can only be used for the actual cleaning up – not for construction.”
