Westland seeks to recoup city hall demolition costs by LeAnne Rogers Hometown Life (MI) December 3, 2015 Westland is hoping to recoup as much as $500,000 in costs related to the demolition of vacant municipal buildings by establishing Brownfield District. A public hearing on the Brownfield proposal is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 7 prior to the next city council meeting. The properties included are the former city hall, the Bailey Recreation Center, the former fire station 1 and the city-owned Michigan Motor Exchange, all located at Ford and Carlson. The closed city buildings are on 14 acres. “By making it a Brownfield, the DDA (Downtown Development Authority) can be reimbursed,” said Westland Mayor William Wild.
