Trace contaminates discovered at New Lex apartment building By Bill Rockwell Perry County Tribune Reporter (OH) December 8, 2015 A routine quality test conducted Friday by the Ohio EPA found trace amounts of the carcinogen TCE near the New Lexington Village Apartments. As a precaution, the EPA, Ohio Department of Health and Perry County Health Department conducted further air quality testing over the weekend after preliminary tests found small amounts of Trichloroethylene (TCE) which is commonly used as an industrial solvent or a cleaning agent to remove grease from metal parts. According to an official within the village of New Lexington, the EPA believes the source of the TCE could be the Cooper-Standard automotive manufacturing plant that is located just several yards from both the apartment facility and a Kroger’s grocery store. Village officials sent a notice to Village Apartment residents warning them of the dangers of TCE and the further air testing that was conducted.
