Mill Site RAP moves forward By Kelci Parks, Fort Bragg Advocate News (CA) December 17, 2015The Remedial Action Plan for Operable Units C and D of the Georgia- Pacific mill site was approved on Monday night. After years of site investigations, soil sampling and groundwater testing, Georgia Pacific pinpointed where contamination on the sites exists, at what levels and in what quantities. City Manager Linda Ruffing explained that environmental and human risk assessment studies were done as well as feasibility studies that looked at alternatives for remediating the site. “The RAP in front of the successor agency tonight presents the results from all the studies and plans for remediation on Operable Units C and D,” said Ruffing. “What’s pretty amazing is, given the big area covered by the RAP, the soil and groundwater contamination remedial activities involve excavation of less than 2,000 cubic yards of soil. A lot of remediation was performed early in the process with G-P under interim remedial action.” ...
