Brownfields assessment work to begin in early January in Martinsburg by Matthew Umstead Hagerstown Herald Mail (MD) December 19, 2015 . MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Environmental investigation and other work to spur revitalization of blighted industrial properties in Martinsburg that once were major cogs in the city's economy is expected to begin in early January and continue for about a year or more. The Martinsburg Mills & Rail Corridor Revitalization Brownfields Project is being funded by $400,000 that was awarded to the city in May by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Interwoven Mills has sat mostly vacant since it closed in 1976.
