Need to clean up an old CNY factory site? New York proposes using vegetable oil by Charley Hannagan Syracuse Post-Standard (NY) January 15, 2016 Vegetable oil is great for frying chicken, but what about cleaning up a Superfund hazardous waste site? The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation wants to inject emulsified vegetable oil into the ground at the old GE/Powerex plant in the town of Aurelius, just west of Auburn, to clean up hazardous chemicals there.
