Lawyer: Area woman awarded $20.6 million in TCE suit By Wally Kennedy Joplin Globe (MO) March 21, 2016 SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - A federal jury in Springfield has found that FAG Bearings in Joplin is responsible for exposing a 27-year-old woman to a toxic chemical that has left her with permanent disabilities, according to online court records. Jodelle L. Kirk, of Silver Creek, was awarded $20.6 million in actual and punitive damages. The jury announced punitive damages of $13 million on Monday after deliberating two hours, according to her lawyers. The jury set actual damages at $7.6 million on Friday after deliberating a day and a half. The company, a subsidiary of Schaeffler Group North America, has not indicated whether it plans to appeal. At age 14 in 2002, Kirk was diagnosed with autoimmune hepatitis. Testimony at the trial revealed that the disease was caused by trichlorethylene, also known as TCE.
