Freeport selects Fischer Excavating to clear Album Street corridor By ShelR. Farrell Freeport Journal-Standard (IL) March 22. 2016 FREEPORT - City officials chose a local company to clear contaminants and a collapsed building from the Album Street corridor as part of a federal environmental grant from three years ago. Aldermen unanimously voted to accept Fischer Excavating's low bid at Monday's City Council meeting. In 2013, Freeport was given a $600,000 Brownfields Assessment and Cleanup Grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for three sites in the 3rd Ward, including the Album Street corridor. Leaders want the latest project to be done by this fall. … The corridor is scheduled to become part of the Pecatonica Prairie Trail, which will be extended past its current end at the border of Stephenson and Winnebago counties.
