Chemicals in Salem water linked to old landfill By Doug Ireland Eagle-Tribune June 4, 2016 SALEM, N.H. - High levels of chemicals used to fight fires at a former landfill have contaminated nearby groundwater, the state Department of Environmental Services announced Friday. The excessive levels of perfluorooctanoic acid, or PFOA, and perfluorooctane sulfonate, or PFOS, were detected at the former LL&S landfill, DES spokesman James Martin said. LL&S collects and recycles various building and demolition materials near the former landfill at 87 Lowell Road. The town has contracted with LL&S to dispose of and recycle Salem residents' construction and demolition debris. ...
