State environmental officials detail Nonantum TCE investigation By Jonathan Dame Wicked Local Newton (MA) October 5, 2016 The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection has been probing groundwater contamination in Nonantum since 2014. The contaminant: trichloroethylene, or TCE, a chemical now linked to cancer that was once used in dry cleaning and as a degreaser of metal parts. Last month, state investigators found what what they believe is the source site: 320-330 Nevada St., also known as 459-471 Watertown St., the site of an historic building now used as office space. It remains unclear what operations at that location may have caused the TCE contamination. ...
