Cleanup agreement reached for CTS Superfund site by Tonya Maxwell Asheville Citizen-Times (NC) November 23, 2016 ASHEVILLE - Cleanup at a South Asheville Superfund site is expected to begin in 2017 after federal environmental officials reached an agreement with three companies, one of them CTS Corp., according to a statement released Tuesday afternoon. Along with Indiana-based CTS, Mills Gap Road Associates and aerospace giant Northrop Grumman Systems Corp. are expected to spend an estimated $9 million toward cleanup of the site at 235 Mills Gap Road, one that has been contaminated for decades with trichloroethylene, also known as TCE. Under the plan, work will be completed the two phases. The first will use superheated underground rods to clean a 1.2-acre parcel. The second will rely on a chemical pumped underground to clean an additional 1.9 acres. ...
