State continues TCE mitigation in Nonantum as parties probe liability

A Virginia-based global defense contractor and a local realty group are investigating whether a property on Nevada Street is the historical source of TCE contamination that has spread throughout a small section of Nonantum.

Northrop Grumman Corp. and One Nevada Realty, LLC, will conduct tests at that property in the coming weeks – but they rebuffed the state’s requestfor additional testing and mitigation work beyond the property’s borders.

Investigators with the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) have fingered an office complex at 320-330 Nevada St. as a likely historical source of trichloroethylene that is contaminating area groundwater.
