Toxic cleanup at Hillcrest site complete by Jeff Platsky Binghamton Press & Sun-Bulletin (NY) December 22, 2016 Cleanup is complete at a Hillcrest industrial site where toxic waste was discovered 17 years ago. The New York Department of Environmental Conservation determined measures taken over the last 18 months have adequately addressed concerns raised with the Triple Cities Metal Finishing location, 4 Nowlan Rd., when first detected in 1999. Crews removed 284 tons of soil and waste sediment, along with structures, tanks and piping, according to the DEC statement. Soil that could not be excavated was immobilized to prevent contaminates from leaching into ground water. ...
