PERKINS PARK: From brownfield to green space in South End By Dyke Hendrickson Newburyport Daily News (MA) August 28, 2017 NEWBURYPORT - Many recreational parks here might be considered gifts from nature but the “new” Perkins Park exists as a resource that has been developed, in part, through repurposing “brownfield” acreage from a troubled past. Located on Beacon Avenue and overlooking the tidal harbor, the park is about 10.1 acres. In 1945, the park was named after Edward G. Perkins, a longtime city councilor who spent many years in service to the community.
