Contamination leads to public water hookup in Buckingham, Doylestown Township neighborhoods

A state grant will cover part of the cost of building a joint water system in both townships that would serve 39 commercial and residential properties.

Editor’s note: The headline on this article has been updated to reflect that residents in these neighborhoods will be connected to public water, not sewer.

A public water extension near the intersection of state Route 263 and Edison Furlong Road will end a long-term water contamination problem for about 39 properties in Buckingham and Doylestown townships.

Soil contamination, including the volatile organic compounds trichloroethene (TCE) and tetrachloroethene (PCE), has been linked to past manufacturing in the area, and the DEP has offered bottled water or carbon filtration systems to residents since as early as 1997, a March 29 presentation from the DEP to Buckingham residents states.
