Landfill brownfield plan approved

ROCHESTER HILLS - Plans are progressing on the construction of a luxury apartment complex on the site of a former illegal landfill.

Goldberg Cos. plans to build a 368-unit development on 28 acres at the northeast corner of Hamlin and Adams roads.  

The complex, named Legacy Rochester Hills, is on property that was used as a commercial landfill in the 1960s and 1970s. Environmental testing has found soil and groundwater contamination, including metals, volatile organic compounds and more.

Nearby residents have voiced concerns about the project, questioning the plans for the environmental cleanup and the possibly transient nature of apartment dwellers.
