Troy approves brownfield development plan for apartment complex

A $55 million apartment complex with nearly 400 units will rise on the site of an existing FedEx distribution center in the area of Livernois and Maple roads in Troy.

The City Council recently approved a brownfield redevelopment plan that will make funds available to the developer to clean up a portion of the site that is environmentally distressed.

In addition to the FedEx facility, the site contains vacant land that holds an underground storage tank, broken pieces of concrete and other construction debris, some of which is below the surface, said Glenn Lapin, Troy’s economic development specialist.
