EPA gives updates on Petoskey Manufacturing contamination by William T. Perkins Petoskey News-Review (MI) June 28, 2018 PETOSKEY - Officials from the Environmental Protection Agency and other agencies addressed the public Wednesday afternoon regarding ongoing monitoring of the environmental risks left behind at the former Petoskey Manufacturing plant site. The plant stood at the corner of Watchel and Lake Streets from the 1940s to 2004, and conducted automotive plating, casting and — after 1960 — painting operations until the turn of the millenium. More recently, experts with the EPA have identified the location as a host to potentially dangerous trichloroethylene “intrusion vapors,” which rise out of the soil from groundwater and have made their way into nearby homes.
