EPA says East Coventry $4.1M Superfund cleanup is complete

EAST COVENTRY - The federal government has removed a five-acre site at the corner of Route 724 and Wells Road from the Superfund environmental cleanup list, it was announced Tuesday.

The site, located in the Parker Ford section of town, consisted of two properties, Recticon and Allied Steel Products Corp., and was put on the "National Priorities List" in 1989 after trichloroethylene (TCE), a potential carcinogen, was found in groundwater beneath the site 10 years earlier.

EPA officials estimated the cost of the clean-up at $4.1 million.
