Public comment sought on proposed cleanup plan for Johnson Controls site by JOHN KLINE GOSHEN NEWS (IN) December 7, 2018 GOSHEN - A revised groundwater contamination remediation plan is in the works for the former Johnson Controls industrial site on the city’s southeast side. The site, located at 1302 E. Monroe St., has long been the subject of a lawsuit by a group of Goshen residents with homes or rental properties near the former factory. The residents are suing to have Johnson Controls Inc. and the site’s current owner, the now-defunct TOCON Holdings LLC, clean up chemical groundwater contamination resulting from the former operation of the facility, which has since been demolished. The suit, filed in May of 2014 in federal court in South Bend, alleges that vapors originating primarily from trichloroethylene (TCE), a chemical used historically for the degreasing of components in manufacturing operations, have been detected under the foundations of nearby homes and businesses. Also, the suit alleges that TCE has polluted groundwater in the area up to 170 feet deep. … For the entire article, see https://www.goshennews.com/news/local_news/public-comment-sought-on-proposed-cleanup-plan-for-johnson-controls/article_c1be2baa-a09a-5d8f-8fe9-fb80a550da69.html -- Lenny Siegel Executive Director Center for Public Environmental Oversight a project of the Pacific Studies Center P.O.
