EPA working to contain hazardous materials on Plymouth Waterfront Diggers and dozers are hard at work on the Plymouth Waterfront. By David Kindy Wicked Local Plymouth (MA) May 1, 2019 PLYMOUTH - Diggers and dozers are hard at work on the Plymouth Waterfront. A parking lot between the Plymouth pump station and 225 Water St. is being ripped up as part of a brownfield project by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to prevent a potential hazard. The town-owned site was part of the former Revere Copper & Brass factory. Filled in decades ago, the former salt marsh contains high levels of petroleum, metals and zinc. It was capped once but now that protection is beginning to erode. A new bio-retention system will be installed and the property restored at a cost of $700,000. “There is a stone abutment on the shore and we noticed that it was beginning to deteriorate,” said David Gould, Plymouth’s director of Marine and Environmental Affairs. “We were concerned that material might leach into the harbor, so we applied to the EPA for brownfield grants.” … For the entire article, see https://plymouth.wickedlocal.com/news/20190501/epa-working-to-contain-hazardous-materials-on-plymouth-waterfront -- Lenny Siegel Executive Director Center for Public Environmental Oversight a project of the Pacific Studies Center P.O.
