Former massive Flint auto site looks completely different by Eric D. Lawrence Detroit Free Press (MI) May 3, 2019 FLINT — A steady rain fell as the president of Kettering University took the wheel of a Chevy Bolt. As he eased the quiet electric car forward, Robert McMahan Jr. explained that the test pad he was driving onto was flat and unbroken, without drains to move water off the "floodable" surface. … Moments later, he accelerated past some gathered geese and onto a sloping "road course" to show what Kettering, a university with close connections to the auto industry, has built on the site of what had been a brownfield after its life as part of "Chevy in the Hole," a formerly massive center of auto production on the Flint River.
