Environmental cleanup needed for Oneco affordable housing site
Manatee County Commission expected to designate land as ‘brownfield’

MANATEE COUNTY — A 96-apartment complex with rents priced for households with incomes ranging from $15,000 to $42,000 appears to be planned for an ideal location for families.

The Oaks at Creekside, also called the Oaks at Lakeside on some documents, is to be built directly west of Manatee County’s John Marble Park, which offers tennis, basketball, swimming and other recreational opportunities for parents and children.

Dating back to 1987, a dry cleaner in a shopping plaza west of the site released industrial chlorinated solvents. The pollutants formed a plume that migrated into the shallow groundwater of the property HTG acquired in “as is” condition and “with all faults.”
