Orbco requests access to city sewers to continue pollutant testing By Erik Cliburn Moberly Monitor-Index (MMO) October 23, 2019 A request to monitor and test the sewer system near the Orbco facility in Moberly was moved forward during a Moberly City Council work session Monday evening. Orbco Inc., an Orscheln-owned vehicle parts facility on North Morley Street, requested permission to access two segments for the city’s sewer line near its facility to perform water jetting, video and photography to collect environmental information. The request complies with a Missouri Department of Natural Resource investigation into trichloroethylene (TCE) pollutants caused by the manufacturing facility. TCE is a colorless liquid often used as a solvent to remove grease from metal, according to the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry, a sub department of the Centers for Disease Control. The DNR investigation began in July after Orbco was found to be the source of the pollutant, according to the Moberly Public Utilities Department. Until September, DNR had tested the sewer system near the facility for TCE vapor emissions. Though they were not imminent health concerns determined by DNR’s investigation, Orbco will continue to be monitored for pollutants. … For the entire article, see https://www.moberlymonitor.com/news/20191023/orbco-requests-access-to-city-sewers-to-continue-pollutant-testing -- Lenny Siegel Executive Director Center for Public Environmental Oversight A project of the Pacific Studies Center LSiegel@cpeo.org P.O.
