A closer look at the proposed Gelman plume cleanup plan. Is it enough?

ANN ARBOR, MI — With a negotiated legal settlementproposing a new cleanup plan for the Gelman dioxane plume, local officials now must decide whether it’s enough.

Ann Arbor’s legal team, including attorneys Abigail Elias and Fred Dindoffer, in addition to City Attorney Stephen Postema, gave an overview of the proposed deal for addressing the decades-old toxic chemical plume during a Zoom conference Monday, Aug. 31.

While Judge Tim Connors has partially lifted a confidentiality order, granting public release of the settlement documents, officials are still prohibited from talking about the give and take in negotiations with polluter Gelman Sciences, so they can’t say what they asked for and didn’t get, Elias said.
