[The Defense Department's BRAC 2005 summary list proposes to "realign"
DC's Walter Reed Army Medical Center, with a projected job loss of
5,630. But in the detailed recommendations, it says "close the main
post." If I recall correctly from a visit to the museum there, the
Medical Center consists of a mix of modern building and historical
buildings accumulated since the Civil War. - LS]


Walter Reed officials plan public meeting to discuss closure

Officials at Walter Reed Army Medical Center have scheduled a community
meeting for Thursday night to discuss the Defense Department's
recommendation to close the 96-year-old military hospital in Northwest Washington.

The meeting will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. in Joel Auditorium at the main
hospital building on the 113-acre campus located on Georgia Avenue in
Shepherd Park. Residents who plan to attend the meeting are being asked
to call (202) 782-3329 or e-mail joan.malloy@na.amedd.army.mil.
