'BRAC' to Have Major Economic Impact

Implementing the Defense Department's plans to close and realign 
military installations could cost Fairfax County billions of dollars, 
county leaders said Monday.

Under the Defense Department's "Base Realignment and Closure" plans, 
18,420 jobs would be relocated to Fort Belvoir, including 8,400 jobs 
from the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency in Reston. Meanwhile, 
the Defense Information Systems Agency's 700,000 square feet of office 
space in Bailey's Crossroads would shutter, moving 2,000 jobs to Fort 
Meade, Md.
